Relationships Shape How We Grow in our Faith

Life Groups are more than just the idea of a classroom setting. We believe growing in our faith is much more than an intellectual experience. Through relationships and connecting with others, our Life Groups form the community of our church.

We go through life together. It is where friendships are born, where laughter and tears are shared, and through this growth, these life challenges are prayed over and experienced together. In these dynamic relationships, we not only learn about God, but the experiences we share including Bible study, form a tightly-woven tapestry of relationships that will last for eternity.

Explore the Bible through Life Lessons with EDU Pastor Randall

One's spiritual and academic growth hinges on engagement in Bible Study. The focus is on the Bible, God's Word. Using Explore the Bible from Lifeway, our Life Groups have easy access to these quarterly book-by-book Bible studies for adults (both online and in print). Our goal is to provide a weekly, practical, repeatable, and age-appropriate encounter with God’s Word with this format. We utilize the whole of Scripture, focusing on Old Testament Books and New Testament Books alternatively throughout the year. Day after day, week after week, our whole church family can grow together in God’s Word one book at a time and learn how to know, love, and invest in God’s truth.

Randall Floyd is the Education Pastor at Grey Stone Church in Durham, NC and summarizes the scheduled lessons with five ideas and three conclusions each week. Through these brief supplemental online Life Lessons, small group leaders and facilitators can prepare to engage God's People with God's Word. Although we encourage people to connect in a small group on campus each week and personally with God's Word on a daily basis, these 15-minute videos can also be used for those who are on the go, or unable to attend on campus.

game plan for life with coach joe gibbs

Joe Gibbs

Joe Giibbs is a former Winning NFL Coach and current NASCAR Owner.  "A successful organization starts with its people." This has long been the philosophy of Joe Gibbs. He's assembled an amazing team of experts to respond to the issues  which are the most pressing in men’s lives. The results are a modern day game plan for a successful life based on God’s Word. Each weekly session includes prayer, an encouraging word, and that week's Personal Training. The session continues with a video object lesson from the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) shop,  The bulk of the video teaching occurs, with Coach illustrating the topic with experiences from his own life and an “assistant coach” or expert sharing more in-depth teaching on the topic in an interview format.

Book at Grey Stone Church.

Summary by Randall Floyd; Education Pastor

This book was written by the Prophet DANIEL, whose name means “God is my Judge.” It is written in 3rd person singular, however, Jesus stated that Daniel wrote the book (Mt.24:15, Mk 13:14; Lk 22:69). Daniel grew up in the captivity of Babylon, witnessing many historical events and visions and wrote this book sometime after 536 BC. He was originally put into the service of the conquering king and eventually took a key administrative role. Daniel ministered close to 70 years and worked under four major rulers: Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, the Median King Darius; and the Persian Ruler, Cyrus. The Babylonians had taken both Daniel and Ezekiel into captivity at about the same time. In addition to Jeremiah, these eyewitness-prophets helped the people understand the activity and the plans of the Lord, even during difficult times.

Outline for DANIEL:

  • Historic Providence (Daniel 1-6): The life and times of Daniel and his friends.
  • Prophetic Previews (Daniel 7-12): Powerful prophecies from God through Daniel.

Finding the Gospel in DANIEL:

Daniel shares an incredible prophecy about the Messiah (Dan. 9), even predicting the exact time Jesus would come to Jerusalem for the last time before He would be killed to save His people from sin! God’s great rescue plan was fulfilled down to the day. All of history is about what Jesus did on the cross by paying for our salvation.

My one word

Mike Ashcroft

A new year brings new «resolutions.’» But the problem is we rarely follow through on them. “My One Word” is an experiment designed to move you from resolutions to focus by picking ONE WORD.Mike Ashcroft has been challenging his church members to focus on one way that they would like to grow through the course of the year, and it has come with amazing results. Now he brings that same challenge to you in One Word, a 3-session, video-based challenge. This year, lose the long list of resolutions and find lasting change by spending an entire year focusing on just one thing that you most hope God will do in you.

Our resolutions seldom work because they are based on the type of person we’re tired of being rather than who God wants us to become. Plus, resolutions can be “broken,” leaving no room for the process of growth. What if our hopes for the year ahead centered instead on who God wants us to become, and the transformation process? It’s okay to want to be a better you, and the New Year is a natural time to start. The question is, how? My One Word replaces broken promises with a vision for real change. When you choose a single word, you have a clarity and focus. You are moving toward the future rather than swearing off the past.

get your life back

John Eldredge

We live in soul-scorching times. The 24-7 onslaught of contemporary life—with its never-ending feed of global tragedies, demands for our attention, and pressures of work, family, and friends—has left us feeling ragged, wrung-out, and emptied. But if we have no margin in our lives, how do we find room to change anything? In this life-changing video Bible study, John Eldredge distills a lifetime of wisdom into five practical and ready-to-implement practices for putting your life back together.

These practices include: (1) the one-minute pause, (2) benevolent detachment, (3) practicing kindness, (4) getting outside, and (5) stepping back from technology. These practices will enable you to begin recovery, focus on what matters most, disengage from the tragedies of this broken world, and discover the restorative power of beauty. You don't need to abandon your life to get it back. You can restore it here and now. And you will never be the same.
